GoPro Developing 360 Degree Camera

GoPro has recently revealed that they currently developing a 360 degree action camera for VR video creators. This doesn’t come as a surprise as many other companies have been doing this as well. Especially seeing as GoPro has been suffering with decrease in sales.

The California based company announced a pilot program on their website on friday. They are looking for content creators that could test out their 5.2K Spherical Camera. They have also given it an interesting name – the GoPro Fusion.

Fusion is just that, the ability to capture every angle simultaneously…as though you had six GoPro cameras fused into one,” said GoPro founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman. “Whether filming for VR or traditional fixed-perspective content, Fusion represents the state-of-the-art in versatile spherical capture.”

As of today, professional content creators can apply to take part of the program. The chosen participants should receive the action camera this summer! There isn’t a specific date when the GoPro Fusion will be released commercially yet. But according to GoPro, they are hoping to reach that point by the end of 2017. So if everything goes well, we can expect to see the GoPro Fusion action camera this year.

Hopefully we can see GoPro bring improvement into the 360 degree action camera market. The cameras currently available have been a bit of a disappointment. They all have one main issue and that is blurry videos. If GoPro has managed to fix that and the Fusion has just as good video quality as on their Hero5 cameras, then we can definitely expect a revolution in the market. Hopefully that’s the case and we can finally have a good 360 degree action camera. If you are interested in taking part of the testing program, then visit their application page at
